Grce ces pots tmoins, faciles identifier, il est possible de localiser les Lapita aux Samoa, il y a environ 3 000 ans. Ainsi, en moins de cinq sicles, un vritable peuple de l'Ocan s'installa sur la plupart des les comprises entre le nord de l'archipel Bismarck et les Samoa, en passant par les Salomon, le Vanuatu, la Nouvelle Caldonie, les Fidji, Futuna et Wallis.
